Divorce Valuations

About Divorce Valuations

A common difficulty in divorce financial settlement discussions is agreeing the value of vehicles accumulated during the marriage. Cars, motorcycles, motorhomes and specialist vehicles are often emotionally charged assets, and once trust has broken down, disagreement over value can quickly escalate into conflict.

A significant proportion of my work involves divorce valuations for vehicles including classic and modern cars, motorcycles, motorhomes, racing cars, agricultural vehicles such as tractors, trucks, cherished registration plates and other specialist assets.

Having been through my own divorce involving multiple vehicles, I understand both the technical and human realities of this process. My role is to provide independent, defensible valuations that allow both parties – and the Court – to move forward with clarity.

Single Joint Expert Divorce Valuations

I am regularly instructed as a Single Joint Expert (SJE) in divorce cases across the UK and Europe. The role and duties of Single Joint Experts are clearly defined under Family Procedure Rules Part 25, requiring independence and an overriding duty to the Court rather than to either party.

Using a Single Joint Expert is often the most effective way to control costs while ensuring transparency and fairness. Reports are comprehensive, address areas of disagreement directly, and costs are typically shared equally between the parties. My SJE work includes inspected valuations and, where appropriate, desktop valuations based on documentary and market evidence.

Inspected and Desktop Divorce Valuations

While many divorce valuations involve physical inspection, this is not always practical or proportionate. I also prepare desktop vehicle valuation reports where access is restricted, cooperation has broken down, assets are concealed, or vehicles have already been sold, modified, or allowed to deteriorate.

Desktop valuations are based on specialist market knowledge, historical data, comparable vehicles, registration and MOT records, provenance research, and condition analysis drawn from available evidence. They are particularly useful for early-stage negotiations, Financial Dispute Resolution hearings, Legal Aid cases, and situations where parties need informed, independent figures without delay.

Desktop reports can stand alone or be supplemented later by inspection if required.

Specialist Car Valuations for Divorce

The purpose of expert valuation evidence in divorce is to assist the Court and reduce unnecessary conflict. My approach is calm, methodical, and evidence-led. Confidence in a valuer’s independence is essential, and I bring this through clear reporting, transparent methodology, and a reputation for integrity built over many years.

I act as both Single Joint Expert and single-party expert and have extensive experience in complex and high-net-worth cases, including psychologically difficult situations. I am always available to discuss suitability, scope, and approach before instruction.
